Best duck calls and goose calls
What are the best duck calls and goose calls on the market today?
Well the answer to that depends heavily on the what type of hunting you are doing, what types of sounds you want to make and your level of experience using duck calls and goose calls.
When it comes to goose hunting, I think most experts will agree that the short reed goose calls on the market today offer the widest variety of sounds and tones for hunters. They can be intimidating to use at first - so for beginners I recommend a double reed call with a very raspy sound like many of the Zink calls. Another consideration to take into account is whether you wish to use Acrylic or Wood calls. Wood calls give a much more raspy sound while the acrylic calls are considerably louder than the wood calls. With duck calls it is much the same as with goose calls, but the vocal tone and pitch are considerations that you need to make.
For me personally, I like the Rnt Goose and Duck Calls because of firm reputation and the very raspy sounds the calls make. I use cocobolo wood calls which are very effective in the field and look really good as well.

Fred Zink Goose Calls
Fred Zink Goose Calls are a relative new comer to the short reed goose call market. Zink goose calls were first introduced in the market in 2001 and quickly have become a favorite of guides and professionals in the goose hunting industry.
Zink calls are know for their attractive looks and custom design. In addition, they are know for some of the most realistic sounds in the industry. Like most short reed calls, the Fred Zink calls require the hunter to understand how to use back pressure and vocalization to adequately create realistic sounds of a Canadian Goose. One of the best features of the Zink calls as compared with most short reed goose calls is that the call requires very little airflow to blow. Which means a hunter can blow very soft and subtle sounds of the Canadian goose. Most short reed calls are designed to blow very loud sounds to attract geese from long distances. This feature alone makes the Zink goose calls an attractive option for hunters looking to put more geese in the bag.
The Fred Zink signature goose call is the world famous Zink Money Maker goose call.

Review of Tim Grounds Goose Calls
Review of Tim Grounds Goose Calls
Tim Grounds goose calls are known world wide for quality and craftmanship. The Tim Grounds line of goose calls includes several varieties that call significantly help the goose hunter bag more birds.
Tim Grounds is most famous for their line of short reed goose calls. They are the first manufacturer to win the famous world goose calling championship with three different calls. The Tim Grounds Super Mag is the flagship call of the company. The super mag is a high performance acrylic short reed goose call. The call creates a wide variety of realistic honks, clucks and grunts which are ideal for any hunting situation. The design allows the hunter to create many different sounds without changing hand position on the call. A hunter must learn how to create adequate backpressure to effectively use this call. The only negative comment on this call is that is probably the most expensive call on the market today.
Tim Grounds Goose Calls also features a variety of similar calls to the Super Mag at a much more affordable cost. The PolyCarb and the Guide series are very similar to the Super Mag but made of a high quality poly making the call much more affordable. The Half Breed is a great call - it is a short reed goose call made out of high quality ABS plastic. The call is tuned a little higher pitched and can be very useful for luring in the lesser canadians in the blind.

Jeff Foiles Goose Calls
Jeff Foiles Goose Calls
In the world of short reed goose calls, the Jeff Foiles goose calls are some of the most innovative calls on the market. One of the major criticisms of short reed goose call is that they can be difficult to blow without adequate backpressure.
To create backpressure with a goose call is not a very difficult task, but if done poorly the hunter will not be able to adequately mimic the sounds of a Canadian goose. To create backpressure, you simply need to grab the goose call around the neck of the calls with an okay sign, close your hand and lift your index finger up about one inch. While this can be easy to do when practicing, this can be a very daunting challenge when it is 30 degrees out and your hands are frozen.
This is where the Foiles Goose Calls make hunting a lot easier. Jeff Foiles created a series of calls that greatly reduces the need for backpressure, making it very easy to blow. In addition, this makes it very easy to create many of the sounds of a Canadian goose like clucks, honks, grunts and double clucks. When looking at buying a short reed goose call, make sure to check out the Jeff Foiles goose calls.
