Field Goose Hunting: Choose A Perfect Location
Goose Hunting Tips: Part I
Without question the best way to get more geese into your decoy spread is choosing the an ideal location for your field goose hunting decoy spread. One of the things that I see inexperienced goose hunters do poorly is choosing a great location for their spread. Canadian geese migrate south at the same time fields are being harvested in the heartland of America. This is overlooked when hunters go to set up hunting locations. As geese move from the resting locations in the morning to the fields to eat – they are seeking the easiest and most abundant food source they can find. Fields of corn and in particular wheat that is recently picked draw geese in like a magnet. Each day as they fly from resting locations to the fields they are able to see all of the fields that have been recently harvested and then are likely to return in the near future.
Befriending you local farmers in the summer and spring and learning when they are cutting their fields will open the doors to hunting their fields in the fall. This may be the most important secret to getting more geese. I have found many of the goose hunting videos covers the basics of this all important piece to successful field goose hunting.
